Before You Go

To travel to Africa is to admire beautiful landscapes, discover completely different cultures, observe remarkable fauna and flora, enjoy beautiful weather and experience adventure everyday. If this continent has countless attractions, it also presents many risks, including health risks. So that your stay in one of its countries goes well, here are 5 tips to take into account in order to prepare well for your holiday.

What to plan to stay healthy?

Having a small range of medications and a good first aid kit is helpful when you’re on vacation in Africa. In addition to basic headache and pain relief medication, such as paracetamol, consider carrying mosquito repellent sprays and a wide-brimmed hat. Also recommended are anti-diarrhoea medications such as Imodium. Some form of ibuprofen is also useful to deal with any muscular aches and pains which may occur on your journey.
The use of sunscreen lotions may also be useful to reduce the discomfort caused by sunburn.

The essential vaccines

To prevent your escapade from turning into a nightmare, be sure to make a visit to a travel clinic beforehand, in order to get acquainted with the essential vaccines before entering African territory. These include anti-malarial treatments, yellow fever and other vaccinations. It is recommended to do this in advance as some vaccines require taking two shots on different dates.

Our Recommendations

·Documents: passport valid 6 months after the return date and biometric visa (preferably).

·Mandatory vaccine: yellow fever (vaccination record requested).

Recommended vaccines: universal vaccines, MMR, hepatitis A, typhoid, haemophilus influenzae, meningitis B, anti-malarial treatment; possibly rabies, meningococcal meningitis A and C.

Equipment and clothing to take away

Staying in Africa doesn’t mean you’re going to land in a wild, civilization-free place. For this purpose, you can travel light and carry only the bare minimum. In addition to your clothes, shower accessories and camera, the addition of a sheet, mosquito net and flashlight may be helpful. As for the choice of clothes, prefer versatile outfits, because if during the days it can be very hot, the nights can be quite cool.
